Hey! My name is Sophie Bradshaw and I’m the food and lifestyle blogger behind Sophie’s Blend… It’s nice to (virtually) meet you.
I’m 22 years old (I’ve been told I’m an old head on young shoulders) and currently live in the beautiful city of York in England on my family farm (although I have to admit, I am constantly dreaming of bigger city escapes).
Oh – and I like to write in brackets (a lot).
Sophie’s Blend came about when I finished my A-Levels and didn’t know what the hell I wanted to do with my life. Although I received pretty reasonable results in photography, media and English language – I eventually decided against going to University so that I could take a year out; in order to earn money and go travel the world. However, I didn’t quite live up to that famous ‘gap yah’ hype.
I was bored. So I started a blog to showcase my ametatur cooking skillz and, well, I guess I’m still doing it.
MY FOOD ETHOS
Here’s what I know.
Mama Nature has pretty much spoiled us with the most valuable gift possible: natural, healthful and delicious food. And so it would only make sense to graciously accept what she has put right in front of us – and take full advantage of it all, no? I say: Try and make as much as you can from scratch, whilst actually enjoying the process. Cooking really doesn’t have to be stressful or time consuming – but a total pleasure. Or in my case, even therapy!
Now, I understand that being able to make fancy shmancy dishes every day of the week just isn’t realistic for the modern lifestyle: As much as we’d like them to be, demanding work/uni schedules simply don’t always allow for them. And you know what? That’s okay. Because it doesn’t mean you can’t rustle up a lip smacking dish that will be on your plate in under 30 minutes in the evening and leave you with handy leftovers for lunch. I like to take a slightly more ‘realistic’ approach to cooking; creating recipes which I think can be easily recreated at home, using as many accessible and affordable ingredients as possible. Of course, this does involve some level of organisation, but nothing crazily drastic. And that’s a promise!
The recipes you’ll find on this blog are also here because I have had to learn to adapt my diet so that I can help with my healing process – and the food reflects exactly what I find is working for me, at that particular stage in my journey. As a blogger who focuses on ‘real’ food – I feel like I should probably highlight that for me; eating well goes so much deeper than snapping green juices and hashtagging #eatclean in the hope that it will ramp up the likes on social media. No, I don’t have years of nutrition studies behind me – nor have I taken a course online to become a ‘certified health coach’; however, I do believe that what I learn along the way is worth sharing and could potentially enlighten those who could do with a little help in the kitchen area.
I always say that healthy food should be just as beneficial for the taste buds as it is for the body. Sure, the foods I eat are initially on my plate because I know that they are going to benefit my personal well being – but also because they taste bloody good, too. The food you fuel your body with should be a delight to eat – and maybe even make you feel excited for what the next meal time has to offer you! I’m sure the foodies out there will relate when I say I’m the kinda person to be scheming lunch right after having breakfast… Not. Even. Ashamed.
I’m still young, and I’m still learning. My health will always be one of my main priorities – but right now I’d say that it’s higher than ever as I work every damn day to strengthen my body physically. And mentally? Right now, I feel like I can say that I am truly happy with where I am; I’m confident in my capabilities and as though I actually have potential to succeed in life… Catch me saying that a couple of years ago! I’m a big believer in ‘trusting your gut’ and not letting any one tell you what you should or shouldn’t be doing – a new found quality I feel I have been able to gain through out this crazy journey so far. It’s definitely not been an easy situation to deal with and I’d be totally lying if I said that I don’t have my down days where I feel like hiding under the duvet; but then, that’s what makes me human – and a stronger one, at that.
I feel incredibly lucky to be able to do as a living: creating fresh content, working in photography and social media and of course – blogging to my hearts content. WHAT YOU’LL FIND ON HERE
What started with a foodie Instagram then became a full blog where I could share more of what makes me feel happy. I thought, ‘Why not combine all of my passions of writing, photography and cooking to create a blog that covers more topics that I’m interested in?’
So just think of this blog as a blender – and whizzed up inside is a killer smoothie filled with my favourite recipes, but also posts related to beauty, design, travel, guest posts, blogging tips, authentic reviews, interviews with like minded people and pretty much everything in between. Hence the name ‘Sophie’s Blend’.
